Maurer Söhne certified according EN 1090

All production sites comply to the new European norm in steel construction Munich. Over decades, in German steel construction the DIN 18800 part 7 could be considered as the "bible". The new EN 1090 will replace this DIN after a period of coexistence. Maurer Söhne in Munich now counts among the fi rst companies which was certifi ed in all its production sites according to this new EN.

Dancing Bridge of Wolgograd tamed

On May 20, 2010, the video which displayed the "dancing bridge of Wolgograd" got world wide attention. In particular laymen made venturesome speculations of waves several meters high – in reality the vertical vibrations of the bridge deck were in the range of ± 400 mm. But already these vibrations were enough to temporarily close the bridge for traffi c, and to conduct comprehensive analyses about the cause of the problem. It was Maurer Söhne in Munich that spoiled the sport of the world community of mockery. In collaboration with the Swiss Institute Empa and mutually with the “Universität der Bundeswehr” (University of the German armed fores) in Neubiberg, Germany, a concept was developed and implemented to dampen the steel bridge retroactively with 12 adaptive tuned mass dampers, with a mass of 5,200 kg each.

Milanese Court grants Preliminary Injunction

The Italian corporations ALGA SpA and PGA Engineering have been ordered by the Milanese Court to prominently publish a judicial assertion regarding the possible infringement of a Maurer Söhne patent for a period of thirty days on their homepage. This relates to the unauthorized application respectively utilization of sliding bearings using UHMWPE as sliding material which pertain to the scope of protection conferred by the European Patent EP 1 523 598 B1 owned by Maurer Söhne in the building industry.

The name AlpspiX depicts a spectacular viewing platform about 1,000 m over the Hell Valley, being opposite of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. Two light platforms protrude in the shape of an X into the abyss. However, in case of purposeful movements of the visitors, these platforms vibrated that much that the operator, the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG, decided to make the platform also accessible to tourists which are more sensitive to vibrations.
